FC Bayern's U16s have an exciting challenge this summer. Just under two months before the FIFA Club World Cup, Can Ünal's team will be taking part in the 2025 Generation adidas Cup. A total of 80 boy youth teams from 14 countries and four continents will compete in this tournament for the U16 and U18 age groups, which will be held from 12 to 20 April at the IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida.
Ünal: “New experience, both on on and off the pitch”
“We're really looking forward to this tournament and the trip to the USA. It will be a great opportunity for our boys to compete against completely different opponents than they usually do in the league and gain valuable new experience, both on and off the pitch,” said Ünal. In addition to the U16s from FC Bayern Campus, VfB Stuttgart are the only other team from Germany taking part. Each team is guaranteed to play seven matches. Games in the group stage consist of 2 x 30-minute halves, in the knockout round 2 x 35 minutes.
Bischof: “Exciting challenge”
For the first time this year, this youth tournament organised by Bayern partner adidas and the MLS will also be played for girls at U16 level. Bayern are sending their U15s to compete. “Our girls are also really looking forward to this tournament,” said Nathalie Bischof, coordinator of youth development in women's football. “We regularly take part in major tournaments in Europe, but this one in Florida will be a completely new and exciting challenge for us.”
As part of our journey to the United States, FC Bayern will also be collaborating with North American media platform Footy Access. This collaboration will give fans an exclusive, behind-the-scenes look at both the boys’ and girls’ academy teams as they compete in the Generation adidas Cup.
