When Bayern becomes a love story

FC Bayern fans travel from all over the world to support their team at away matches – even if it takes them hundreds of kilometres through snow and cold. We want to get to know those who spare no effort or expense to see their beloved Bayern away from the Allianz Arena a little better: our away fans with their special stories, their love and their passion for FC Bayern.

If passion for FC Bayern also sparks love for each other, then Lena and Michael have a story to tell. Both are standing in front of the FCB fan block at the Champions League away match in Leverkusen and you quickly realise from speaking to them: two people have searched for and found each other – and FC Bayern is partly responsible for their love.

There's a special feeling in the air on this Tuesday evening. It's Europe's premier club competition, round of 16. However, Bayern are not travelling to Barcelona, Rome or Liverpool, but to Leverkusen in Germany. It's the second away game in this Champions League campaign to take place in Germany. For Lena and Michael, however, this does not dampen their enthusiasm – quite the opposite.

Travelling to their beloved club's European away outings together is something very special for them, something that connects them. The two met in 2019, just before Christmas, at a Bayern match. They travelled to the Bundesliga home game against VfL Wolfsburg with the Allgäu-Kurve 86 fan club. "There was free mulled wine in the Allianz Arena, and then one thing led to another," reports Michael. The two look at each other and smile. Little by little, they realised that they had more in common than just a passion for Bayern. Lena and Michael became a couple.

Michael, who has also been chairman of the Allgäu-Kurve fan club since 2020, still has vivid memories when he talks about his favourite Bayern match. Not a final in Berlin or London, but a 3-0 away win at FC Barcelona in the Champions League group stage. It was his first away trip with Lena. "We have very fond memories of that," he says. "It's always something very special when we're travelling together with FC Bayern."

They were on tour together again against Leverkusen, travelling to the away leg by train. Again it was the Champions League, again it was a win, which took Bayern through to the quarter-finals. Lena and Michael's love also appears to bring FCB luck.
