The FC Bayern World Squad Class of ’25 has returned from China. The team led by head coach Roy Makaay and assistant coach Diego Contento had an eventful time in Shanghai, Hangzhou and Taicang – in terms of sport and beyond.
They worked on their performances, technique and tactics on the pitch but also visited the Shanghai Towers, completed a training session with the Shanghai Blind Football Team, did boot fitting at adidas headquarters and contested their first friendly against Shanghai Shenhua U19s.
The World Squad then travelled to Hangzhou, where the players went on a boat trip on the West Lake and tried out tradtional Chinese calligraphy.
They also visited the Football School Taicang, run by FC Bayern since 2023, a youth football project in cooperation with a local middle school, where one boys‘ and one girls’ team train every day with FC Bayern coaches.
The World Squad rounded off their trip with a match against Zhejiang FC U21s. The team turned in a strong performance and deservedly won 4-2 before heading home to Munich, where the World Squad will keep working until the end of July.
“We had superb training conditions and contested interesting friendlies in China, the team extremely improved their performances within a short time,” said Roy Makaay: “Now we’ll use the upcoming training sessions at Säbener Straße and two further friendlies to prepare for the match against the U19s.”
A factory tour at partner Audi awaits the team, who will be able to show their development against Viktoria Plzeň on 18 July at 18:00 CEST and Rapid Vienna on 21 July at 11:00. As in previous years, the season will conclude with the match against the FC Bayern U19s on 26 July 2025 at the FC Bayern Campus at 13:30.
