Bayern’s Lennart Karl has been awarded the silver Fritz Walter Medal at U17 level by the German FA. The gold medal went to Eintracht Frankfurt’s Alexander Staff, with Elias Vali Fard of Borussia Mönchengladbach receiving the bronze for 2025.
Karl joined the Bayern youth setup from Viktoria Aschaffenburg in summer 2022. He made his senior debut in the 10-0 win over Auckland City at the Club World Cup in the USA, before signing a new contract and becoming a full-time member of Vincent Kompany’s first-team squad in August. The 17-year-old has since made nine senior appearances for Bayern. He has come through several of Germany’s youth teams and was a key part of the U17s side at the World Cup in Albania in May.
Karl is the latest Bayern youngsters to earn the Fritz Walter Medal, named after the 1954 World Cup winner. He follows in the footsteps of the likes of Toni Kroos (U18s gold, 2008) and Emre Can (U17s gold, 2011).
Three FC Bayern Women’s players also received medals in 2025, with Alara Şehitler winning gold in the U19s category, while Luzie Zähringer earned gold and Marie Gmeineder bronze for the U17s.
