Jan-Christian Dreesen after PSG: Praise for the team and a special thank-you

It was not at all any old Champions League league phase match. FC Bayern showed all of football’s facets in Tuesday’s 2-1 victory away at holders Paris Saint-Germain and deservedly won the top match. “Wow, what a fight we saw on this wonderful night in Paris. It felt like a semi-final or final,” an enthused Jan-Christian Dreesen said in his speech at the post-match banquet.

Dreesen: ‘Everyone stood up for each other’

Sumptuous interplay and nice goals in the first half, unbridled will to win and outstanding mentality in the second after two-goal Luis Díaz received his marching orders. “The first half with the two-goal lead – we could have scored three or four – and the red card. Then the second half, where everyone stood up for each other. We showed we can do more than just dazzle and score goals, we can also defend,” Dreesen summarised.

“It was a team effort,” stressed Dreesen, but mentioned one player in particular. “We had a Man of the Match – Manuel Neuer kept us in the game in the second half. Incredible what you still produce at your age,” Dreesen said with a wink after the captain had made sensational saves in the closing stages.

Dreesen thanks fans

The FC Bayern CEO had a special message for the FC Bayern fans: “I’d like to thank our fans who supported us in the stands tonight, with everything they have and full passion. They really didn’t have it easy because, due to the arbitrariness of the Paris police, first they weren’t allowed into the match, then were sent to a tollbooth, where there are no toilets, nothing to eat or drink,” said Dreesen (More info). “Luckily, we managed to organise with the fan clubs that we got second and third bus drivers so that the fans could just get home tonight. I’d also like to express my thanks for that,” Dreesen conclduded.
