FC Bayern' Allianz Arena is to once again host regular-season games of the National Football League (NFL). As part of a multi-year partnership with the German record champions and the city of Munich, American football will return to the Bavarian capital in 2026 and 2028. Next year will be the third NFL game hosted here after 2022 and 2024.
Allianz Arena managing director Jürgen Muth: "The Allianz Arena will be hosting the NFL in Germany for the third time - this shows that we can also offer American football a home. Our stadium has established itself on the world map of sport with its modern infrastructure, its unique atmosphere and the enthusiasm of the Munich fans. Over the years, the NFL in the Allianz Arena has become more than just an event that people travel to, and not just from within Germany: These games are evidence of the Europe-wide enthusiasm and interaction between Munich and American football."
Mayor of the City of Munich Verena Dietl: "I’m delighted about the extension of our contract with the NFL and it once again shows the importance and strength of Munich as a sporting city. The previous games not only won the hearts of the fans, but also strengthened our successful cooperation with the NFL. Together, we’re committed to promoting American football in Germany and spreading the enthusiasm for the sport far beyond the stadiums. I'm looking forward to the upcoming games in 2026 and 2028, which will not only bring top-class sport, but also valuable impetus for grassroots sport in our city."
General manager of the NFL in the DACH region (German-speaking region of Germany, Austria and Switzerland) Alexander Steinforth: "Germany is of great strategic importance for the NFL in Europe. We're delighted to be returning to Munich in 2026 and 2028, underlining the league's long-term commitment to Germany. Munich holds a very special place in the hearts of our fans, having hosted regular-season games in 2022 and 2024. We look forward to creating exceptional experiences for fans while continuing to grow the NFL's presence in the years to come."
The exact date and the two teams for the 2026 match are yet to be announced. In autumn 2022, the NFL celebrated its German premiere in the Allianz Arena. In the ‘NFL Munich Game’, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and their star quarterback Tom Brady won 21:16 against the Seattle Seahawks. A thrilled Brady said later: "That was one of my greatest football experiences." In the second NFL game, the Carolina Panthers and the New York Giants played out a close encounter: the score was 17-17 at the end of the regulation period, with the Panthers winning with a field goal in overtime. Manuel Neuer fired up the crowd before kick-off by beating the Panthers' legendary drum, while FCB president Herbert Hainer, CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen, Jamal Musiala and Alphonso Davies were among those watching on at the sold-out Allianz Arena. To prepare for the game, the Säbener Straße facilities and the FC Bayern Campus were made available to the teams for training sessions.
