Reaction to Stuttgart v Bayern - Harry Kane: 'The boys did a great job'

FC Bayern beat VfB Stuttgart 5-0 thanks to an outstanding display, in the second half in particular. “The boys did a great job in the first 60 minutes, so we subs could exploit the space – and of course it’s nice for me personally to score a few goals,” said Harry Kane, who bagged a hat-trick on Saturday. “The substitutions and our physicality helped us turn in a much stronger display in the second half,” said head coach Vincent Kompany. fcbayern.com has gathered the rest of the post-match reaction for you.

Vincent Kompany: “We didn’t get off to a bad start and Konrad Laimer scored thanks to our deep runs. Stuttgart always pressed high and stuck to their game, which is why it was so intense. Stuttgart got a grip in the first half, we lost our momentum a little. We focused more on vertical play in the second half. The substitutions and our physicality helped us turn in a much stronger display in the second half.”

Harry Kane: “We’ve had a lot of games in a short space of time and a really tough midweek match, we weathered it well. And today we took on one of the best teams. They often play man-to-man, they really put you under pressure, but we were able to cope with it, and I think we looked like the stronger team in the final half-hour and punished them. The boys did a great job in the first 60 minutes, so we subs could exploit the space – and of course it’s nice for me personally to score a few goals. I try to keep up the energy – and that’s exactly what the coach said before the game.”

Jonas Urbig: “We turned in a great team display. It was a tough match for 60 minutes. Then we made some changes, we introduced a few fresh players, which was crucial. We finished it very well. I found out at 11 this morning that I’d play. Of course I’m glad when I get to play. I’m always ready, we always prepare together as the goalkeeping team.”

Konrad Laimer: “It’s always nice to score, especially if it’s such a nice goal. It was another very good display. The way we played, with this intensity and energy, was fun. We’re very hungry and always keep going. We want to recover quickly and approach the match against Sporting with the same mindset.”

Reaction from VfB Stuttgart

Sebastian Hoeneß (coach): "We didn’t get off to the start we wanted, with the first chance and the first goal. We can defend better than that. We then fought our way into the game. We were in it and it was at least balanced after 20 minutes. We had one goal ruled out for offside and had two very big chances. We didn’t exploit them, which would have been crucial for our momentum and the break. The game remained open. Bayern had more control than in the first half – and then the second goal was the decisive moment. We let the game slip away, which was unnecessary. We didn’t defend against Kane the way you have to. He’s incredibly precise, even from long range. And then the game took its course, as can happen against Bayern.”

Angelo Stiller: “We turned in a good first-half display, we needed 20 minutes but played well then. We had ambitious plans at half-time, we had a good feeling. To play such a terrible second half – we definitely have to work on that. We weren’t there, we were always a step too late, and if so, Bayern are just too good.”

Deniz Undav: “There was a two-class difference. We didn’t put our plan into practice. We allowed them too much space. If you allow Bayern too much space, you concede goals. They have some of the best players and incredible quality. They crushed us today. It’s sad, but we must learn from that.”
