Edmund Stoiber steps down, Dieter Reiter new chair

Dr Edmund Stoiber, former long-time Bavarian Minister-President, has been a member of FC Bayern since 1966 – longer than he has been a member of his party, the CSU – and has now officially stepped down as chairman of the club’s advisory board. The 84-year-old, who will once again be honoured for his outstanding services to the German record champions at Sunday’s members’ tribute match at the Allianz Arena – together with other long-standing club members – and who has been appointed honorary chairman of the advisory board at the suggestion of the executive committee, is handing over his office to Dieter Reiter. Stoiber had been a member of the committee since 1988 and had chaired it since 1992. Munich's mayor, Reiter (67), has been a member of the advisory board since 2017. Jochen Tschunke and Peter Kerspe also stepped down on Friday. Tschunke had been a member since 1994 and Kerspe since 2018. Elisabeth Promberger, Dr Klaus-Peter Röhler, Alexander Sixt and Max Viessmann were newly appointed to the committee. Alexandra Schörghuber remains deputy chair of the advisory board.

Herbert Hainer, FC Bayern president: “FC Bayern is deeply grateful to Dr Edmund Stoiber for having stood by the club for decades as a uniquely accomplished advisor in all conceivable matters. His commitment, particularly as chair of our advisory board, was unparalleled. Anyone who has Edmund Stoiber in their ranks is in an excellent position. He will remain an important point of contact in the future. Edmund, thank you for everything! We would also like to thank Jochen Tschunke and Peter Kerspe for their many years of support. And at the same time, we are delighted to now look ahead together with Dieter Reiter as the new chair and Elisabeth Promberger, Dr Klaus-Peter Röhler, Alexander Sixt and Max Viessmann as new members.”

Dr Edmund Stoiber: “I would like to express my heartfelt thanks to FC Bayern for the many decades we have spent together. It has been a great honour for me to chair the advisory board. ‘Mia san Mia’ stands for togetherness, and this credo has always been decisive for me on the advisory board. We advise the executive committee internally, trustingly and constructively. I would particularly like to thank the executive committees of the past decades, led by Professor Dr Fritz Scherer, Franz Beckenbauer, Uli Hoeneß, Karl Hopfner and Herbert Hainer. FC Bayern is in an excellent position, and I wish this great club every success in maintaining its Bavarian identity and continuing to set standards in the future, both nationally and internationally, and socially beyond the world of sport. With Dieter Reiter at the helm, the advisory board will continue to contribute to the further development of the club in the future.”

Dieter Reiter: “It’s an honour for me to head the FC Bayern advisory board, of which I have been a member for many years. I attended my first FC Bayern match when I was five years old. And when I saw Franz Beckenbauer, Gerd Müller, Sepp Maier and their teammates, I knew immediately that FC Bayern would always be the club closest to my heart. Together with my colleagues, we want to support our club with advice and contribute in a small way to its overall success.”
