When 17-year-old Harry Kane made it two for Leyton Orient in the League One match against Sheffield Wednesday in January 2011, no one could have foreseen the path he would take. Just over 15 years later, the forward has scored a whopping 500 goals in his pro career – at club level and for England. The Bayern striker reached an incredible milestone when he bagged a brace against Werder Bremen on Saturday.
“Of course I’m proud I’ve scored 500 goals,” Kane said after the final whistle in Bremen: “But it was hard work, so I’m glad I achieved it. But the main thing was to win and keep a clean sheet today.”
Record scorer at club level and for England
The England captain has netted 78 times for his national team, which makes him the Three Lions’ record goalscorer. After 16 goals on loan at Leyton Orient (5), Leicester City (2) and Millwall (9), he went on to score 280 for Tottenham Hotspur to become his home club’s record scorer before breaking records at FC Bayern since 2023: the world-class striker has scored 125 goals in 131 appearances as of Saturday, 26 of which came in only 22 Bundesliga matches this season. The 32-year-old equalled Robert Lewandowski’s record of 26 goals after 22 Bundesliga matchdays in 2020/21 and 2021/22.

If Kane continues like this, he might break the Pole’s record of 41 goals in one Bundesliga campaign. “Anything is possible, but of course it’s still a long way to go, and it’s an incredible record. I’m in good form, I’m glad I scored again and helped the team today. For now, it’s about scoring the next goal,” commented Kane.
Kompany: ‘Harry Kane is the kind of player who scores goals’
Bayern won’t have to wait for long until the next goal, according to his coach: “Harry Kane is the kind of player who scores goals,” said Vincent Kompany and stressed Kane’s team spirit: “But I think the championship title means more to him than the record.” But given how prolific he is, Kane might not have to choose between the two at the end of the season.
