Nutrition workshop goes down a treat

There were some very interesting questions, which were eagerly discussed by the participants. “You intend to go to the gym after school or work, what's the best thing to take with you?” for instance, and the answers included a) muesli in a plastic tub, b) wraps with peanut butter and banana or c) sandwiches and water. At FC Bayern's first-ever nutrition workshop ‘ZAM G'SUND’ (healthy together), everything revolved around recipes for success in the spirit of the German champions. From around 700 applications, 50 adult members as well as girls and boys from the TEENS CLUB were randomly drawn to work together on the topic of nutrition - and to cook healthy dishes according to the players' tastes in the FC Bayern Campus kitchen.

"Fair play starts with food - in relation to your own body,“ explained managing director e.V. Benny Folkmann: "FC Bayern wants to work with its members beyond the pitch, which is why we launched our 'ZAM AKTIV' (active together) exercise promotion programme, among other things. In elite sport as well as in everyday life, the right diet is a crucial foundation for being able to realise one's full potential. With this workshop, we want to share interesting nutritional strategies to contribute to a healthy and active society."

Pascal Dyck, head chef at the FC Bayern Campus, and youth football nutrition consultant Eva Busam had put together an informative activity programme for the participants alongside the head office team led by head of membership Jasmin Gaßner, Jennifer Sajons and Janine Ongyerth. The highlights included slicing cucumbers, frying tofu and preparing avocado together before enjoying a bowl or Thai curry. The day was rounded off with an exclusive tour of the FC Bayern Campus.

There was barely enough time to answer all the questions about healthy eating at FC Bayern: Are light products healthier? Do carbohydrates make us fat? Should we stop eating after 6 pm? Are bananas good for doing sport? How was Franz Beckenabuer able to be so good in the past, even though the topic of nutrition wasn't yet that well understood in the era of the ‘Kaiser’? Busam explained everything thoroughly - and revealed, among other things, why the players only get pasta with tomato sauce ahead of kick-off. The bottom line: the workshop went down a treat.
