Following Lennart Karl’s bitter disappointment at missing the World Cup due to injury, FC Bayern is looking forward to welcoming the starlet back to Munich and will provide the Germany international with all the support he needs as he works towards a comeback. The 18-year-old suffered a torn muscle fibre in his left thigh during training in the USA and is unable to take part in the tournament.
“Missing out on a World Cup at the last minute is incredibly painful of course, and the news came as a shock to the whole of FC Bayern. But it doesn’t change the fact that Lenny has so much talent, passion and potential. He more than deserved to be at this World Cup thanks to his outstanding first season as a professional,” commented board member for sport Max Eberl: “Lenny will receive all the support he needs at FC Bayern. We’ll get back on the pitch as soon as possible – and we all know that he still has many major tournaments ahead of him. He himself is already looking ahead and says he’ll come back stronger. That’s what I like about him, and that’s the spirit you need at times like this.”
Karl made his senior Germany debut in a 4-3 win against Switzerland in March. He has earned three caps so far and is one of seven Bayern players selected by head coach Julian Nagelsmann for the World Cup, which kicks off on Thursday. The squad also includes Munich men Manuel Neuer, Jonathan Tah, Aleks Pavlovic, Joshua Kimmich, Leon Goretzka and Jamal Musiala.
