Herbert Hainer: 'FC Bayern will keep its eyes on the ball'

Munich gets it! The German Olympic Sports Confederation (DOSB) decided at its extraordinary general meeting on Saturday to put forward the Bavarian state capital as its candidate in the international bidding process for the Olympic and Paralympic Games – to the delight of FC Bayern. The German champions are fully behind the bid, with president Herbert Hainer part of the Munich delegation at the crucial meeting in Baden-Baden, along with Bavarian Minister-President Markus Söder, Bavarian Interior Minister Joachim Herrmann and Mayor Dominik Krause. The International Olympic Committee (IOC) will make its final decision on the staging of the Games in 2029.

“This is a historic day for the sporting city of Munich, but today’s decision was only the kick-off,” declared Hainer after the vote. “Now we go into the crucial second half, and FC Bayern, with its international power, will continue to stand by Munich’s side with full conviction. Together with the city and the German Olympic Sports Confederation, we want to inspire people’s enthusiasm for sport and for the connections it fosters, and to project a cosmopolitan image of Germany to the world. There is still a long way to go before the host city is allocated, but we will keep our eyes on the ball: for Munich, for Bavaria, for the whole of Germany – and for the Olympic and Paralympic Games, which bring people together from all over the world.”

FC Bayern recently illuminated its Allianz Arena in the colours of the Olympic rings in a clear sign of its support ahead of the vote in Baden-Baden.
