Javi Martínez is now an FC Bayern brand ambassador. The former midfielder celebrated his new role on Friday at a special event in the heart of Munich as Café Nymphenburg at the Viktualienmarkt was briefly transformed into Taberna Martínez.
Martínez was right in the thick of things, even taking his turn behind the bar, serving snacks and drinks and chatting to guests and fans. The venue was decorated to suit the occasion – complete with a Vespa and posters bearing the slogan “Javi is back”.

Aumann, Elber and Makaay pop by
The Spaniard also received an official visit from three further legends of the German record champions as Raimond Aumann, Giovane Elber and Roy Makaay welcomed Martínez in his new role as brand ambassador. The reunion gave rise to some emotional moments, as well as group photos and videos. The fans got their money’s worth too, as Martínez took time out to sign autographs and meet fans in person to round off the event at Taberna Martínez.
Martínez had earlier taken part in a football tournament organised by FC Bayern Legends with staff at partner adidas’s headquarters in Herzogenaurach on Thursday. The 38-year-old will also be heading to the Paulaner marquee on Sunday with other former Bayern players for the legends’ Oktoberfest visit.

Martínez back home
“Every time I come back to Munich, it feels like coming home. I’m incredibly proud to now represent the club as a brand ambassador all over the world. Bayern is more than just a club. You could see that again at the Viktualienmarkt. It was a brilliant day – now we can really get going,” said Martínez.
FC Bayern is therefore continuing its long-standing tradition of keeping distinguished former players closely tied to the club. Martínez played for Bayern from 2012 to 2021 and was a key figure in an extremely successful era for the German record champions, during which the World Cup winner won nine Bundesliga titles, five DFB Cups and the UEFA Champions League twice. By winning the sextuple in 2020, he made club history with the team.
