FC Bayern and Allianz are once again setting an example to raise awareness of breast cancer

At their home match against Borussia Dortmund on Saturday, FC Bayern – together with its partner Allianz as ‘Matchday presenter’ – will once again place a special focus on their joint commitment to the fight against breast cancer and mark the end of ‘Pink October’, under the slogan ‘Together. Strong. Against breast cancer.’ Ahead of kick-off in Der Klassiker, women affected by the disease and a man living with breast cancer will walk onto the pitch alongside the FC Bayern players; special printing on the sleeves of the FCB jerseys will further highlight the issue. To round off the event, the Allianz Arena will once again be lit up in the signature colour pink.

This special pre-match walk-on is intended to remind us that breast cancer can affect anyone. Breast cancer is not just a women’s issue: in Germany, around 70,000 women and more than 700 men are diagnosed with the disease every year. Awareness, regular screening and early detection are therefore important for everyone – as is solidarity with those affected. Women affected by breast cancer had already walked onto the pitch with both teams at FC Bayern Women’s 5–0 win over VfB Stuttgart at the stadium at the FC Bayern Campus. At this match, too, jerseys featuring a special design and a group photo in front of a themed banner helped to raise awareness.

At the beginning of the month, to mark the start of the Breast Cancer Awareness Month campaign, various fundraising initiatives were launched; these have been very successful and are still ongoing. Visitors to the Allianz Arena, the FC Bayern Museum or the German double winners’ fan shops can currently make a donation to support the campaign. Various initiatives by Allianz are also making an important contribution to this good cause: so far, over €70,000 have been raised across all campaign events. The entire sum will go to the ‘Outdoor Against Cancer’ initiative.

When the ‘Allianz Pink Run’ was launched, the original target of 70,000 kilometres – representing the approximately 70,000 women diagnosed with breast cancer each year – had already been far exceeded. Participants have now collectively clocked up more than two million kilometres. The challenge will continue – anyone who contributes extra kilometres can still be in with a chance of winning attractive prize packages. Taking part is doubly worthwhile: for your own health and for the collective battle against breast cancer.
