For Diwali

Indian artist Abhay Sehgal designs special FC Bayern shirt

To mark Diwali, the Hindu festival of lights, FC Bayern has collaborated with artist Abhay Sehgal, who designed a special edition of the third kit, not intended for sale, using traditional Indian craft techniques. His design focuses on the dreams of young footballers.

Inspired by lights of Diwali

Diwali is one of India’s most important festivals and symbolises light, hope and a new beginning. Sehgal draws on these themes in his design. His creation combines the symbolism of the festival of lights with the belief that every child should have the opportunity to pursue their dreams – regardless of their background.

Indian craftsmanship

Sehgal drew inspiration for his work from India’s artistic and craft heritage. Using traditional techniques such as embroidery and block printing, he brought his vision to life on the jersey. The vibrant colour palette reflects the energy, warmth and festive atmosphere of Diwali.

The result is a unique, one-off piece that brings together football, art and cultural identity. The shirt tells the story of young people’s hopes and of how sport can bring people together across borders.

Positive reaction from players

The commemorative shirt was unveiled to Harry Kane, Serge Gnabry, Luis Díaz and other first-team players. The design and the story behind the motifs sparked great interest and was well received by the players.

Through this partnership, FC Bayern is demonstrating its close connection with fans in India. At the same time, the project highlights how important it is to the club to understand and incorporate the country’s cultural characteristics and the perspectives of local people.

Where light meets hope, new stories emerge – both on the football pitch and on a shirt.
