Bayern’s second pre-season friendly also brought goals aplenty for the men from Munich. A day after a goalless draw away to Red Bull Salzburg, Germany’s biggest club ran up a predictably high-scoring victory over a team raised by FCB fan club “De rodn Waginga“ in this season’s annual Dream Game. The pros ended up beating the rank amateurs 11-0.
A boisterous 15,000 crowd saw Thomas Müller open the scoring, with Mario Gomez (2) and Anatoliy Tymoshchuk hitting the target for the first time in Bayern colours. Hamit Altintop (2), reserve striker Saer Sene (2), Miroslav Klose (2) and Holger Badstuber rounded off the goal fest. Just as in Salzburg the night before, coach Louis Van Gaal used the game in the Upper Bavarian town of Waging am See to send out a completely different team in each half.
However, the fan club and people of Waging were the real winners on the day. Some 700 volunteers worked round the clock for weeks to make the Dream Game a reality. They moved some 370 tonnes of steel to construct temporary stands at the local ground, and provided stewards, catering services and a supporting programme.
