It was a struggle at times against an unusually defensive Werder Bremen side, but Bayern were rewarded for upping the tempo after half-time as Louis van Gaal’s side came from behind to salvage a draw in their first home fixture of the new league campaign.
The 69,000 full house at the Allianz Arena saw Bayern open at a furious pace but fade alarmingly midway through the first half, Germany starlet Mesut Özil silencing the home faithful with Bremen’s well-taken opener six minutes from the break.
Franck Ribery made his long-awaited first appearance of term on the hour and instantly set up a cracking opening for half-time sub Ivica Olic, but the equaliser finally arrived when Mario Gomez stabbed home from a Philipp Lahm cross with 20 minutes remaining.
It was all Bayern after that, but tiredness set in on both sides and Werder permitted Bayern very few clear sights at goal as the northerners dug in for the draw.
