Clinical FCB take chances and go fourth

The Bayern of old made a welcome reappearance against a tireless and occasionally dangerous Hannover side on Sunday, as the men from Munich ruthlessly put away their chances at the one end and shut out their opponents at the other.

The home majority in the 49,000 capacity crowd at the AWD Arena fell silent when Thomas Müller netted his fourth of the season to open the scoring on 20 minutes, but Jörg Butt had work to do in the Bayern goal too in the course of an incident-filled first half. The visitors moved firmly into the driving seat when Ivica Olic doubled the advantage straight after the restart, and although the FCB defence had to remain alert against the battling home team, the win never truly looked in doubt after the second goal.

Mario Gomez added a last-minute third, a goal which proved much more than merely an afterthought, as the victory by three clear goals takes Bayern up to fourth in the standings, ahead of Hamburg on goal difference but still six points off unbeaten leaders Bayer Leverkusen.
