Bayern made it six wins on the bounce in all competitions and ten games undefeated in the Bundesliga with a supremely comfortable victory over bottom club Hertha Berlin on Saturday, watched by the 100th full house in a row for a league match involving the ever-popular Munich giants.
The 69,000 at the Allianz Arena found joyful relief from the bitter minus 10 degree chill via free mulled wine from a sponsor beforehand, and goals from Daniel van Buyten, Mario Gomez and Arjen Robben in a one-sided first half. Thomas Müller made it four on the hour, and although Adrian Ramos and Raffael pulled consolation goals back for the visitors, Ivica Olic confirmed his side’s effortless superiority with the fifth goal before the end.
The result means FCB are handily placed in third on 33 points at the halfway mark in the campaign, a point off second-placed Schalke and just two behind undefeated leaders Leverkusen. The league programme resumes after a short winter break when the Bavarians host Hoffenheim on 15 January.
