Bayern’s 350th European fixture ended in a dramatic last-gasp win over old foes Manchester United, Ivica Olic netting with the last kick of the game to hand FCB a crucial advantage in the Champions League quarter-final tie.
The vast majority in the 66,000 capacity crowd at the Allianz Arena fell into stunned silence when Wayne Rooney opened the scoring with just over a minute played, and United were much the more assured of the sides for the remainder of a cat-and-mouse first period.
Bayern came out fighting after the restart and penned the Premier League side back into the final third for long spells, Franck Ribery deservedly equalising with a deflected free-kick on 77 minutes. The introduction of fit-again Mario Gomez galvanised Bayern for the final assault, and Olic struck in the last move of the game to seal a somewhat unlikely but famous victory.
The tie remains nicely poised, as a 1-0 win would be enough for United but a draw would do for Bayern when the sides meet in the decider at Old Trafford next Wednesday.
