Festival mood at first warm-up match

Bayern have announced their return from the mid-season break with a dozen goals in their first summer friendly. The double winners won 12-0 in this year’s “Dream Game” against the Lohner Bayern Union Fan Club, delighting the 7,000-strong festival crowd at the Eintracht Stadium in Nordhorn. The carnival mood continued long after the gentle warm-up fixture, as Louis van Gaal and his team stayed out on the pitch to greet fans and sign autographs.

The Fan Club amateur XI held out against the pros for almost 20 minutes, before youngsters Christoph Knasmüllner (19), Nicolas Jülich (23) and David Alaba with a direct free-kick (28) kicked off the parade of goals. Knasmüllner added a fourth (34), before reserve striker Saer Sene, who had earlier crashed a shot off a post, made the half-time score 5-0.

'Tymo' makes it a dozen

The goalmouth action continued unabated after the break. Hamit Altintop (49, 56), Anatoliy Tymoshchuk (53), Danijel Pranjic (58) and José Sosa (59) brought up double figures within a quarter of an hour after the restart. Mehmet Ekici struck the 11th on 76 minutes, before Tymoshchuk rounded off the scoring for the afternoon three minutes later. Very unusually, Ivica Olic failed to add his name to the scoresheet, as his best efforts were thwarted by the post and a goal-line clearance.
