Makeshift FCB end training camp with win

A thoroughly unfamiliar Bayern line-up comfortably beat a Trentino regional XI 5-1 on Saturday afternoon in a friendly to round off the German double winners’ summer training camp. A 2,500 crowd, including many holidaymaking FCB fans, gathered at the Stadio Comunale in Arco to watch José Sosa (6, 19) and Ivica Olic (38, 79) each net twice, with Andreas Ottl adding a fifth Bayern goal from the spot four minutes from time. The Italians’ consolation came from Alessandro Poli on the hour.

The Trentino XI, comprising local league players plus a handful of youth talents including a couple from AC Milan, faced what can best be described as a makeshift FCB line-up. Thirteen senior players are still on vacation after the World Cup, with Hamit Altintop (hamstring) and father-to-be Daniel van Buyten also missing, leaving Bayern boss Louis van Gaal with a squad of just 15, including five reserves and fitness coach Marcelo Martins and sports psychologist Philipp Laux as emergency subs.
