Olic holds nerve to seal final berth

Bayern are through to the final of the 2010 edition of the LIGA total! Cup. A 42,000 crowd at the Veltins Arena in Gelsenkirchen saw a makeshift FCB side beat FC Köln 3-1 in a shortened penalty shoot-out, after Saturday’s 30-minutes each way semi-final finished goalless. In Sunday’s final, Bayern now meet hosts Schalke, who earlier beat Hamburg 2-1.

“I think we played pretty well today,” Louis van Gaal commented afterwards, pleased with the display by a line-up featuring five reserves. “Obviously we couldn’t dominate the way we normally can, Cologne had their moments too. That's the first time my reserves have played in front of a big crowd like this, but I think they were very disciplined. I hope they can do it again tomorrow.“ Van Gaal is now looking forward to Sunday’s reunion with Schalke’s star signing Raul. “Raul is an outstanding player, he scored lots of goals for Real against me when I was Barcelona coach, but we’ll do whatever we can to stop him tomorrow,” the Munich boss said.
