Bayern survived a tricky opening period against Manchester City on Tuesday night, but upped their game in impressive fashion and utterly dominated their opponents for fully 60 minutes, to make it ten wins on the trot without conceding a goal and move into a commanding position in Champions League Group A.
The 66,000 full house at the Allianz Arena saw the Premier League side enjoy much the better of the opening half-hour, but the Bundesliga leaders seized the game by the scruff of the neck before half-time, and Mario Gomez netted twice from close range to put Jupp Heynckes’ side in the driving seat. Bayern imperiously dominated the play after the restart as Blues heads seemed to go down, and the home side cruised to the finish to wrap up a convincing victory.
The result means FCB strengthen their grip on top spot in Group A with maximum points from their two fixtures so far, but City now have work to do after taking just a single point to date. The Bavarians are next in match action this Saturday with the Bundesliga trip to fast-starting Hoffenheim.
