Goal-hungry Usami tears into Academy side

In the last test of the Doha training camp, an FCB XI defeated an ASPIRE Academy U-19 team 5-0 in a 30-minutes-each-way match on Sunday afternoon, maintaining Bayern’s perfect record in three winter friendlies so far. For the final run-out prior to Monday morning’s departure for Delhi, Jupp Heynckes fielded a line-up of players who either came on as late subs or did not feature at all in the 2-1 win over Al Ahly the previous day.

That meant a start for Franck Ribéry, who is suspended for the Bundesliga restart fixture away to Gladbach and sat out Saturday’s prestige friendly against the men from Cairo as a result. “He’s been outstanding in training this week. He has unbelievable class. He’s a fixture in the team,” Heynckes earlier told the daily news conference at the team hotel. Mario Gomez, who picked up a minor toe injury after just 11 minutes of the Al Ahly clash and was substituted as a precaution, covered the first 45 minutes of the meeting with the Academy side.
