Alaba and Shaqiri strike but FCB fall to Napoli

The fourth warm-up friendly of the pre-season period, rounding off Bayern’s week-long training camp in the Trentino region of northern Italy, brought FCB a first defeat, as Jupp Heynckes’ side fell 3-2 to top Italian club SSC Napoli in Arco by the shores of Lake Garda on Friday evening. Once the benefit match was over, the Munich party set off for home immediately after the final whistle.

A 3,083 full house at the municipal stadium in Arco saw David Alaba hand FCB a 16th-minute lead, but Paolo Cannavaro equalised on the stroke of half-time. The Italians nosed in front on 67 minutes through Goran Pandev, but Xherdan Shaqiri levelled it up with a stunning free-kick six minutes later. Lorenzo Insigne wrapped up a narrow win for the Serie A side with a long-range effort eight minutes from time.

“I’m happy with the way my team played for long spells,” coach Heynckes commented afterwards. “That was a good and valuable test, which tells you a lot more than when you play a team and beat them 11-0,” the 67-year-old continued.
