As a welcome change from the punishing training workouts of the past few days, the squad contested the third warm-up match of the pre-season period on Tuesday evening. In a match against a Trentino Regional XI staged at the stadium in Arco near Lake Garda, the Bundesliga giants delighted the 2,750 crowd with an entertaining and highly watchable 11-0 victory.
Jupp Heynckes handed summer signing Mario Mandzukic a first start in FCB colours, and the Croatian marked his debut with the goal to make it 4-0 after 20 minutes. Mario was pleased afterwards: “Scoring gave me a good feeling, but we played well overall. Any goals from me aren’t the most important thing.“ Prodigal son Claudio Pizarro also found the net for his former and new club, rounding off the scoring after 79 minutes.
