Thank you FC Bayern! Long-standing but financially troubled Alemannia Aachen received a helping hand on Sunday when the nation’s biggest club visited the third division outfit for a benefit match. Coach Jupp Heynckes’ men won an entertaining game 5-2 courtesy of a brace apiece from Mario Gomez and Arjen Robben, and a Jerome Boateng strike. Timmy Thiele and Kai Schwertfeger scored early on in each half for Alemannia.
A day after the 2-0 restart victory over Greuther Fürth, Heynckes mainly sent out players who either did not feature at the Allianz Arena or who only played minor roles. Philipp Lahm, Bastian Schweinsteiger, Thomas Müller, Franck Ribéry, Javi Martínez and Mario Mandzukic remained in Munich for regeneration training, with Sunday’s squad also lacking Claudio Pizarro (flu) and Luiz Gustavo (suspension).
