Bayern salvage draw with last kick

FC Bayern and FC Heidenheim shared the spoils in Saturday’s dress rehearsal for the Champions League semi-final second leg against Paris Saint-Germain. Budu Zivzivadze and Eren Dinkçi netted for Heidenheim, with Leon Goretzka getting one back for Bayern before half-time. Goretzka levelled the scores after the restart and Zivzivadze restored Heidenheim’s lead, but Michael Olise’s shot hit the post and went in off the back of FCH keeper Diant Ramaj deep into added time.

Vincent Kompany made seven changes to the XI that took on PSG on Tuesday. It meant Bayern lined up with Jonas Urbig in goal and Josip Stanišić, Minjae Kim, Jonathan Tah and Hiroki Ito in defence. Goretzka and Bara Ndiaye anchored a midfield featuring Aleksandar Pavlović, Jamal Musiala and Konrad Laimer, with Nicolas Jackson up front. Luis Díaz, Joshua Kimmich, Harry Kane and Olise came on for Stanišić, Ndiaye, Pavlović and Musiala, with Alphonso Davies taking over from Tah late in the second half.

Trailing at half-time

Bayern dominated possession and Pavlović saw an effort blocked before a Goretzka shot was saved. Ito fired just wide, but the away side took the lead when a corner was cleared only as far as Marnon Busch, who invited Zivzivadze to beat Urbig from close range.

Dinkçi curled wide but soon doubled Heidenheim’s advantage, latching onto Busch’s long ball and tapping in. Goretzka’s free-kick was blocked, but he stepped up a second time shortly before half-time and unleashed a sumptuous curler into the top left corner of the net. Musiala aimed too far and Bayern were 2-1 down at the break.

Late leveller

Díaz and Jackson saw shots saved before a Kim effort was blocked, but Bayern levelled the scores when Goretzka found the net from Olise’s corner to round off his brace. Olise aimed wide and Kimmich hit the post from distance.

Urbig made a fine save to deny Dinkçi and Díaz miscued before Zivzivadze restored Heidenheim’s lead with a curler into the top right corner. Bayern pressed for a reply and chances came and went for Goretzka and Jackson. The champions levelled with the last attack of the game, Olise’s shot crashing off the post and in off the back of Ramaj.

Bayern’s full focus is now on Wednesday evening’s match against Paris Saint-Germain with a 5-4 deficit to overturn.
