FC Bayern returned to winning ways with a 1-0 victory over VfL Wolfsburg in the Bundesliga on Saturday. Munich were dominant in the second half and Michael Olise scored the only goal after the restart. The victory means Bayern remain unbeaten on the road this Bundesliga campaign.
Bayern lined up with Jonas Urbig in goal and Josip Stanišić, Minjae Kim, Hiroki Ito and Tom Bischof in a back four. Joshua Kimmich and Leon Goretzka anchored a midfield featuring Olise, Jamal Musiala and Nicolas Jackson, with Harry Kane up front. Dayot Upmecano and Konrad Laimer replaced Kim and Goretzka at half-time, with Luis Díaz, Lennart Karl and Jonathan Tah coming on for Jackson, Musiala and Ito in the second half.
Entertaining first half
It was an up-tempo contest with Bayern dominating possession, but Wolfsburg had more chances and Urbig made a strong save to deny Vinicius Souza before Musiala saw a shot saved. Bischof’s belter crashed off the bar before Goretzka almost put through his own goal, but Urbig was there.
Bayern were awarded a penalty when Olise was upended in the box, but Kane slipped and fired wide. Urbig made another fine double save against Denis Vavro and Christian Eriksen, before Dzenan Pejčinović miscued.
Olise seals it
Munich were in the driving seat after half-time, Wolfburg keeper Kamil Grabara denying Jackson and Musiala. Bayern took the lead when Olise cut inside from the right and unleashed a powerful drive that found the net via the underside of the crossbar.
Kane saw a shot saved and another one deflected behind. Bischof fired straight at Grabara, who also saved Karl’s curler. Substitute Mattias Svanberg hit the post as the Wolves pushed for an equaliser and Jesper Lindström fired wide, but Bayern rode the storm and claimed another three points.
The champions will be back in action next Saturday when they entertain Köln in the last Bundesliga match of the season.
