FC Bayern beat Europa League winners Aston Villa 2-1 to round off the Audi Summer Tour. Minjae Kim’s goal separated the sides at half-time and Luis Díaz made it two with 20 minutes to go. Villa’s João Gomes pulled one back, but a world-class save from Manuel Neuer helped to secure a deserved victory.
Kim on target
Bayern were dominant from the off and Arijon Ibrahimović saw an effort deflected behind before firing wide. Villa were more solid at the back now, with gilt-edged chances at a premium.
Aleksandar Pavlović saw a shot saved and Tom Bischof curled wide, but the latter’s fine free kick soon invited Kim to nod home the deserved opening goal for the Reds.
Díaz’s wonder goal
There was little action for a spell, with Evann Guessand just failing to turn in Emiliano Buendía’s free kick. Bayern upped the ante after the hour, with Josip Stanišić, Ibrahimović and Bischof seeing their shots saved. Substitute Díaz had an effort blocked on the line, but Bayern made it two when Ibrahimović set up the Colombian, who unleashed a powerful drive that found the net via the underside of the crossbar.
Villa pulled one back out of the blue, João Gomes beating Neuer from 20 yards. Neuer soon shone with a fine reflex save to keep out Tammy Abraham’s header as Villa went looking for an equaliser. Gomes then fired wide from distance as Bayern claimed another victory.
The Bavarians will fly back to Munich overnight and are back in action next Saturday, when they take on RB Leipzig in the Telekom Cup at the Allianz Arena.
