Brilliant Bayern put seven goals past Union Berlin

FC Bayern beat Union Berlin 7-0 in the Bundesliga on Friday evening to kick off the Oktoberfest season in style. Jamal Musiala, Harry Kane and Michael Olise netted in the first half. Kane rounded off his brace after half-time, substitute Ismael Saibari also got on the scoresheet before Olise netted another two to complete his hat-trick.

Munich started with Manuel Neuer in goal and Josip Stanišić, Dayot Upamecano, Jonathan Tah and Alphonso Davies in a back four. Aleksandar Pavlović and Joshua Kimmich anchored a midfield featuring Olise, Musiala and Luis Díaz, with Kane up front. Minjae Kim took over from Upamecano at half-time, with Tom Bischof, Saibari, the returning Serge Gnabry and Nathaniel Brown coming on for Pavlović, Luis Díaz, Kane and Davies in the second half.

Milestone for Kane

Bayern were dominant from the off and saw a number of shots blocked before Davies teed up Musiala, who unleashed an unstoppable shot into the far top corner of the net. Union goalkeeper Frederik Rønnow made a strong reflex save against Tah and denied Olise.

Díaz’s fine chip soon found the net, but the flag was up for offside. Olise was upended in the box, with Kane dispatching the ensuing penalty to score his 100th Bundesliga goal in his 98th appearance – a new record. Bayern made it three shortly before half-time when Musiala laid off for Olise to curl into the top right corner of the net.

Olise stands out

It was more of the same in the second half, although Neuer made strong saves against Janik Haberer and Tom Rothe. Olise’s pinpoint cross invited Kane to head home from close range and make it four.

Saibari added his name to the scoresheet soon after coming on, sidestepping a number of defenders and beating Rønnow for his maiden Bundesliga goal. Bischof’s diagonal pass found Olise, who rounded Rønnow and netted via the inside of the post. The Frenchman rounded off his hat-trick when he curled into the top right corner of the net to crown fine interplay. More chances came and went for Bayern, with another Musiala goal chalked off for offside as it remained 7-0 and an impressive victory ahead of Oktoberfest’s opening on Saturday.

A number of FCB players will be on national team duty during the international break before returning to club action on 10 October, when they travel to face Augsburg in the Bundesliga.
