FC Bayern beat RB Leipzig 6-1 at the Allianz Arena in the Bundesliga on Saturday. Luis Díaz, Aleksandar Pavlović and Michael Olise handed Bayern a comfortable lead in the first half. Díaz scored another two goals to round off his hat-trick and Harry Kane added his name to the scoresheet in the second half. Andrija Maksimović pulled one back for the visitors in added time.
Munich started with Jonas Urbig in goal and Konrad Laimer, Dayot Upamecano, Minjae Kim and Nathaniel Brown in a back four. Joshua Kimmich and Pavlović anchored a midfield featuring Olise, Ismael Saibari and Díaz, with Kane up front. Josip Stanišić, Tom Bischof, Serge Gnabry and Lennart Karl took over from Laimer, Pavlović, Saibari and Kane on the hour, with Sacha Boey coming on for Kim with a quarter-hour to go.
Super first 45
Bayern were dominant from the start and two Olise passes only just evaded Saibari, but Munich took the lead when Kimmich’s pinpoint pass released Díaz, who fired home. The Colombian skied a shot and Leipzig goalkeeper Maarten Vandevoort made a fine save from Upamecano, but Díaz soon invited Pavlović to slot in the second of the evening.
Vandevoort denied Olise and Saibari before Olise found the net from the D to make it three in a scintillating first-half display. Leipzig were reeling and Díaz saw a shot saved, with several more attempts being blocked before the break.
Hat-trick hero
The match followed a similar pattern in the second half. Díaz curled the ball into the far corner of the net within minutes of the restart. Brown then ran onto the Colombian’s pass to square for Kane to tap in before Vandevoort denied Gnabry, Upamecano and Olise.
Bischof saw a thumping shot diverted behind for a corner, but a short routine found Díaz, who slided across the edge of the box to curl around Vandevoort for his hat-trick and Bayern’s half-dozen. Olise hit the bar before Leipzig relieved the pressure in the closing stages. Brajan Gruda fired just wide but Maksimović ruined Urbig’s clean sheet in added time. The result takes Bayern back to the top of the Bundesliga overnight at least, before Freiburg visit Bayer Leverkusen.
The Bavarians will be back in action on Wednesday when they entertain Arsenal in the Champions League.
