The year after the infamous ‘Finale dahoam’ against Chelsea, Bayern brought the Champions League trophy back to Munich in 2013. Boateng was the instigator of the winning goal against Dortmund at Wembley.

Boateng was a winner and set a Bundesliga record on 19 December 2014 by going 56 straight appearances in the league without defeat after a 2-1 victory at Mainz.

Boateng was named Footballer of the Year in Germany in 2016. “I was incredibly touched and proud to have done that as a defender,” he said.

Being a Berliner in Munich didn’t seem to be a problem. “I quickly felt at home here,” Boateng said looking back. He was pretty comfortable in lederhosen by the 2016 title celebrations.
