Martinez made his competitive debut for Bayern in a 6-1 win over VfB Stuttgart on 2 September 2012. There would be many, many more victories to come.
After missing out in the dramatic 2012 final against Chelsea, Bayern went one step better the next year with Martinez when Mr. Wembley, Arjen Robben, scored the winner in the Champions League final against Dortmund in May 2013.
Javi won everything in his very first year with Bayern. After lifting the Bundesliga and Champions League titles, the club completed the first treble in its history with the DFB Cup against Stuttgart.
Martinez was about battle, desire and resolute challenges on the pitch, as his later teammate Robert Lewandowski found out in this cup clash in February 2013.
The birth of Mr. Supercup: Martinez scored a 120th-minute equaliser to make it 2-2 against Chelsea and take the 2013 UEFA Super Cup to penalties, as Bayern lifted the trophy for the first time.
Bayern’s title of "record champions" is absolutely fitting for Martinez, who has won the Bundesliga eight times in a row with the club. A ninth should follow shortly.
Some people work their whole life for success, but Martinez has twice achieved the fabled treble in nine years with Bayern. He and his teammates beat Paris Saint-Germain 1-0 in August 2020 to complete the second in the club’s history.
History repeated itself in September 2020 as Martinez again scored in extra-time of the UEFA Super Cup to give Bayern a 2-1 win over Sevilla and bring the trophy to Munich for a second time.
Thank you, Javi, for nine years of complete commitment to Bayern.
