7 June 2007 was a happy day for Bayern as Franck Ribery was officially unveiled at the club. The 24-year-old Frenchman joined from Marseille and received the number 7 shirt, which had been worn by Bayern Legend Mehmet Scholl up to the previous season.

Thousands of fans and numerous journalists came by Säbener Straße on 3 July 2007 as Ribery began life at Bayern with his first training session. The attacker showed from the start what we’d later see from him, with Stefan Fürstner and Hamit Altintop struggling to contain him.

After a year’s drought, Bayern ended the 2007/08 season with the Bundesliga title again. Ribery played his part in that success, so immediately grabbed the Meisterschale and ran away holding it aloft.

Ribery got 11 goals and eight assists in 28 league games, plus two more goals and four assists in five DFB Cup outings, as Bayern won the double in his maiden campaign. He was subsequently named Germany’s Footballer of the Year on 15 August 2008.

Ribery got his hands on the Meisterschale for a second time in 2009/10, receiving the trophy at the Olympiastadion in Berlin with teammates Ivica Olic and Daniel van Buyten.

As well as his on-field abilities, the Frenchman was also known for his jovial manner. One of the most memorable moments was his bus tour during the 2009 training camp in Dubai when driver Franck took out a few signs.

‘King Franck’ got his crown in 2013 when he added the Champions League to the Bundesliga and DFB Cup. The winger set up the winning goal in the final to finally get his hands on the trophy he’d so long desired.

“This award crowns a very special year,” Ribery said when he received the European Player of the Year trophy on 29 August 2013. It was just reward for an outstanding year as he won the treble with Bayern.

Ribery was now an essential part of the Bayern family as he won his seventh title in 2017. He said goodbye to his long-standing companions Hermann Gerland and Philipp Lahm at the end of the season, while the Frenchman signed on for another year.

Exactly 10 years after his first training session, Ribery was at Säbener Straße again on 3 July 2017. Even after so many dribbles down the wing, goals and assists, he still had the same joy and enthusiasm as on his very first day.
