Alphonso Davies was born in Ghana and grew up in Canada. He started his professional career with Vancouver Whitecaps, where he mostly played on the left side of attack. In January 2019, he joined FC Bayern and made his Bundesliga debut shortly after. Alongside outings for the first team, he also gained match experience with the Bayern reserves.
Treble winner with Bayern
He made his breakthrough with the first team in the following season. Davies switched to the left-back position and impressed both defensively and on the counter-attack with his pace and tackling. He was one of the key figures in Bayern’s treble-winning 2019/20 season.
Having represented Canada at youth level, he was called up to the senior squad for the first time as a 16-year-old and made his debut in June 2017. Davies took part in the World Cup in Qatar in winter 2022 and scored the country’s first ever World Cup goal in the group match against Croatia. He led his team as captain at the 2024 Copa América 2024. At World Cup 2026, where Canada were co-hosts and reached the knockout stages for the first time, he was named in the squad but only made one short appearance due to an injury sustained before.
