Vincent Kompany has been head coach of FC Bayern since July 2024. The former defender was born in Ukkel, Belgium and played for Anderlecht, Hamburger SV and Manchester City. He returned to Belgium in 2019 and became player-coach at Anderlecht. After one season, Kompany retired from playing but remained as coach. He went back to English football in 2022 to take charge of Burnley, leading them to promotion to the Premier League in his first season. However, the Clarets were unable to stay in the top flight and were relegated back to the Championship.
Trophies with Manchester City
Kompany’s most successful time came as a player at Manchester City, where he was captain for several years and lifted the Premier League four times, two FA Cups, four EFL Cups and the Community Shield twice. The centre-back was inducted into the Premier League Hall of Fame in 2022. Kompany won 89 caps for Belgium (four goals), finishing third at the 2018 World Cup. He was named his country’s Footballer of the Year in 2004.
