Dayot Upamecano has been at Bayern since summer 2021. The central defender was born in France and started his professional career at RB Salzburg. He later moved to Leipzig in the Bundesliga, where he played for a total of four years before joining the German record champions. With his athleticism and robust tackling, he is a key part of the record champions’ back line. In February 2026, Upamecano agreed a contract extension with FC Bayern.
World Cup runner-up with France
Upamecano made his debut for the senior French national team in September 2020 and has been a regular in Les Bleus squad since then. Following the 2021 UEFA Nations League triumph, he was a key figure for Didier Deschamps’ side at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, playing five out of seven matches in their entirety. The defensive specialist also played over 120 minutes in the final against Argentina, in which France lost on penalties. In 2026, he and France were knocked out in the semi-finals of the World Cup by the eventual champions Spain, but thanks to his strong performances, he was later selected for the best FIFA XI of the tournament.
