Jonathan Tah is a robust and internationally experienced centre-back who, despite his powerful physique, is extremely agile, quick and skilled at build-up play. He started playing football at Altona 93 before moving to Concordia Hamburg and then, in the summer of 2009, to Hamburger SV. He made his professional debut for HSV in the summer of 2013, becoming the club's youngest player in the Bundesliga era. After a year on loan at Fortuna Düsseldorf (2014/15), Tah moved to Bayer 04 Leverkusen in the summer of 2015. The defender made 402 competitive appearances (18 goals) for the Werkself over ten years, enjoying his greatest successes in the 2023/24 season when he celebrated winning the double of league and DFB Cup, as well as reaching the Europa League final with Leverkusen (losing 3-0 to Atalanta). Tah joined FC Bayern in the summer of 2025 after his contract with Bayer 04 expired.
Germany international
Tah represented Germany at several youth levels and was awarded the Fritz Walter Medal in gold in 2015 as the best young player of his age group (U19). On 26 March 2016, he made his debut for the senior national team in a friendly against England, and is now firmly established in the side.
