He's the backbone of FCB: Manuel Neuer has been FC Bayern's goalkeeper since 2011. He 's regarded as one of the best goalkeepers of all time and is not only known for his incredible reflexes and saves, but has also revolutionised the goalkeeping position with his attacking, involved approach to the role. During his time with the record champions, he has won, among other things, the Champions League twice and has been crowned German champion 13 times, making him joint record-holder in the competition alongside Thomas Müller. Neuer’s seven DFB Cup triumphs (six of them with Bayern) also represent a joint record with Bastian Schweinsteiger. He has made well over 500 competitive appearances for the Munich side. Neuer has also been captain since 2017.
2014 World Cup winner in Brazil
Born in Gelsenkirchen, he started out at his boyhood club, FC Schalke 04. He turned professional at the Royal Blues in 2005, and in August 2006, the then 20-year-old made his Bundesliga debut. Five years later, he left the club where he had come through the ranks to move to Munich. In 2011 and 2014, Neuer was named Germany’s Player of the Year, as well as being named Best FIFA Goalkeeper a total of five times. In 2009, he became European champion with the Germany Under 21s and went on to win the World Cup with the German national team in Brazil in 2014. With 23 appearances, he is also the record-holder for the most World Cup appearances by a goalkeeper. Having made his comeback for the national team at the 2026 World Cup, he has now finally brought his international career to a close after 126 making appearances for his country.
