After four years with the club, Steffen Hamann and FC Bayern Basketball will part ways this off-season after his contract ran out at the end of the 2013/14 season. Hamann, who served as team captain, played a significant role in the development of the team in his time. "With his passion and dedication for the club, Steffen was always a role model for the other players, the fans and anyone who shows enthusiasm for team sports," said general manager Marko Pesic.
The 33-year-old point guard joined Bayern in 2010 from ALBA Berlin and helped the team reach promotion from the second division and eventually led them to the title last season as team captain. Hamann played 156 competitive games for Bayern (in all competitions) and scored an impressive 835 points and 480 assists in his time. The club will schedule a farewell match for Hamann, the date yet to be determined, and the jersey No. 6, will be retired in his honor.
