Melanie Behringer scored an impressive field goal playing football, Leonie Maier got some great shots in playing basketball, but above all, the FC Bayern women impressed within their own discipline during the Allianz Winter Camp in Florida. To top off the one-week training camp in the Sunshine State, the FC Bayern women celebrated a 4-0 victory over the U.S. U-20 women's national team in Orlando, and manager Karin Danner is “convinced that this week will contribute to [the team] competing successfully this season.”
Upon their arrival in Munich on Thursday, coach Thomas Wörle has another two weeks time before the first official match after the winter break on February 15 in Hoffenheim. The Allianz Winter Camp served as the core of the preparation for the league restart. In 70-degree weather and plenty of sunshine, the team focused primarily on tactics.
Winter signing Dagny Brynjarsdóttir celebrated a 4-0 victory in her debut for Bayern against the University of Florida Gators in Gainesville. The injured Sarah Romert and Lena Lotzen traveled with the team to the U.S. and continued their rehabilitation there. Training for the team of 24 typically consisted of two sessions daily on the University of Florida campus.
“Many thanks to Allianz for making this winter camp in Florida possible,” said team manager Karin Danner reflecting on the past week, in which the team encountered many Bayern fans. “It was great, and we took in a lot during this past week. The training conditions here were superb, and we couldn’t have trained anywhere else. I’m looking forward to the restart of the league.”
