The Bayern basketballers have now won their second exhibition game. Munich edged to victory in the most recent encounter with the Italian Eurocup side Dolomiti Energia Trentino on Thursday evening in Bruneck (South Tyrol) by 78 points to 72. Head coach Svetislav Pesic’s team had also won last week in the training camp of Riva del Garda by 76 to 67.
The Bayern team was without European Championship competitors Anton Gavel, Paul Zipser and Alex Renfroe as well as the recovering Maxi Kleber, but took the lead 17-6 early on, before the opposition from Trento came back with a strong game. Prior to the final quarter, FCBB were behind 51 to 58, but Bayern gave it all to secure the victory. Especially Dusko Savanovic (24 points and 4/5 three-pointers), Deon Thompson (17) and Bruce Taylor (16) showed great form. John Bryant also impressed before the break with 13/9 rebounds before he was rested along with Nihad Djedocvic. Youngsters Richard Freudenberg, Dejan Kovacevic, Daniel Mayr and Karim Jallow (4 points) also made an appearance.
“We've played well in this part of the season," said FCBB assistant coach Emir Mutapcic after the game. "We had some difficulties in offense against their physical play, but we need to get used to that, and the young players can learn from it. In the end, we found our system, fought well and dominated, even though Trento fought hard for the win.”
Mutapcic took the place of Pesic for the exhibition game in the Kronplatz region, since the head coach is leading a FIBA and DBB coaching clinic ahead of the European Championship qualifiers in Berlin. On the evening before the start of the championships on Saturday, the documentary 'Svetislav Pesic – More Than A Coach' will be shown at the 'CinemaxX' at Potsdamer Platz. The German premiere for the film took place in April at the Munich 'CinemaxX'
