On Saturday the FC Bayern U23s wrapped up a successful winter training camp in Dallas, a week that saw them prepare intensely for the second half of the season with only one goal in mind, win the Regionalliga championship. Although the week ended with a loss to hosts FC Dallas the week was filled with memorable highlights sprinkled in between.
Apart from daily double training sessions and intense fitness regimes, the players and coaching staff got some time to relax as well and take in some of the local sights. And what better local tradition to begin training camp with than a team Super Bowl watch party? The boys enjoyed the Patriots win over the Rams at a local restaurant before resting up for the hard week ahead.
A special treat was also a visit to the Dallas Cowboys facilities, gaining an inside-look into the world class headquarters and all it has to offer its athletes. The players got to do a special fitness session there with American trainers and go through the regimes of some of the best American football players in the world.
The highlight of the trip arguably was attending the Dallas Mavericks game vs the Charlotte Hornets and the meet and greet with NBA legend Dirk Nowitzki. The Mavs legend sat with the youngsters sharing his experience as a professional athlete and what it takes to get to the highest level, a moment of mentorship and inspiration the players won't soon forget. The players also got to knock in a few shots of their own on the court after the game.
Finally, to end the week in Dallas, some of the U23 players who were rested for the friendly against FC Dallas got to enjoy a watch party with hundreds of fans from across the State that made the trip to the stadium to cheer on the team as they took on Schalke in the Bundesliga that morning. Among those who celebrated with fans was American Taylor Booth who recently signed for the club who surprised 10-year-old Bayern fan Isabella with Bayern cupcakes on her special birthday.
All in all a week to remember in the Lone Star State. We want to thank FC Dallas for their amazing hospitality and partnership and we wish our boys a safe trip back to Munich and all the best in the second half of the season.
