All eyes are currently on the top-of-the-table Bundesliga clash on Saturday between FC Bayern and RB Leipzig at the Allianz Arena. The title race for the 58th Bundesliga season is still completely open. However, planning for next campaign is already underway and the German FA (DFB) announced the calendar for the 2021/22 season on Friday afternoon.
Bundesliga opener in August 2021
The 2021/22 Bundesliga season will begin on the weekend of August 13th-15th 2021. The top flight will go into the winter break after Matchday 17 on December 17th-19th. League games will then resume on January 7th, 2022. The 34th and final matchday is scheduled for Saturday, May 14th, 2022.
DFB Cup begins on 6 August 2021
The DFB Cup will begin with the first round on the weekend of August 6th-9th, 2021. The second round will take place on October 26th-27th, 2021, before the last 16 on January 18th-19th, 2022 and the quarter-finals on March 1st-2nd, 2022. The two semi-finals will take place on April 19th and 20th, 2022. The final in Berlin's Olympiastadion is scheduled for Saturday, May 21st, 2022.
Third division begins on July 23rd, 2021
The dates for the 2021/22 third division season have also been set. The FCB Reserves are currently the title holders but now sit 17th in the table. The third division will begin on the weekend of July 23rd-26th, 2021 next season. After Matchday 20 on December 17th-20th, 2021, the league will take a winter break until the restart on January 14th, 2022. The 38th and final matchday is scheduled for May 14th, 2022.
