The names Robert Lewandowski and Thomas Müller have left Bundesliga defences frozen in fear over recent months. The world’s best player has broken record upon record, while the 2014 world champion has quietly gone about earning his own place in history. One team particularly fearful of the dreaded duo is FC Augsburg. No other players have more Bundesliga goals against them than Lewandowski (19) or Müller (8).
The pair can now build on those hauls in Wednesday evening’s Bavarian derby, as Lewandowski and Müller are in outstanding form. They were once again both crucial to the weekend’s win against Freiburg, with the former opening the scoring and the latter rounding off the 2-1 victory.
Müller to Lewandowski = Goal
As if that wasn’t enough, Bayern’s No.25 was also the provider for the first goal. It was the Bavarian’s third assist in the last four league games and means Müller now has an incredible 125 Bundesliga assists to his name, which is the most of any player since data collection began in 2004/05. Obviously, Lewandowski is one of his favourite targets. Since they’ve played together in red, Müller has teed up the now world’s best player 32 times in the league. They’ll want to combine once again on Wednesday to give Augsburg the shivers.
