Over the last ten years he has helped to establish an era at FC Bayern. Jérôme Boateng was involved in numerous titles over that decade. As a tough ball-winner and with the technical ability to build from the back, the central defender is also an absolute favorite with the fans. fcbayern.com looks back at the stats from this outstanding period.
1. Invincible central defender
Boateng played 56 Bundesliga matches in succession without defeat between November 2012 and December 2014 – a longer run than any other player in the history of the league.
2. Impressive ball-winner
Boateng won an impressive 62% of his challenges in the Bundesliga at Bayern – of all the players who have made at least 100 Bundesliga appearances for Bayern since the start of the 2011/12 season, only Javi Martínez has a better record in challenges over that timescale (64%).
3. Double treble
Boateng is one of the five players who have succeeded in winning the treble with FC Bayern twice. The other four are Manuel Neuer, David Alaba, Thomas Müller and Martínez. Across Europe that has only otherwise been achieved by Gerard Piqué, Dani Alves, Sergio Busquets, Xavi, Andrés Iniesta, Pedro, Lionel Messi (in 2009 and 2015 with Barcelona) plus Samuel Eto'o (2009 with Barcelona, 2010 with Inter Milan).
4. Whole pitch in view
Boateng set up the winner in the 2013 Champions League final with a pinpoint long ball to Frank Ribéry. Since making his Bundesliga debut for Bayern, the 2014 World Cup winner has played 2,477 long balls – that is only bettered in the Bundesliga by Mats Hummels (2,672) over the same period.
5. Great touch
Of all the Bundesliga players who have played at least 1,500 long balls over that timescale, only Kevin Vogt (68%) has a better return of completed passes than Boateng (62% along with Naldo).
