Three wins out of three! Led by a strong FC Bayern block including a total of seven players from the record champions, Germany got off to a perfect start in the latest round of international matches. The DFB team celebrated a 4-0 (2-0) win against Iceland in Reykjavik on Wednesday evening. Following wins over Liechtenstein (2-0) and Armenia (6-0), the Germans extended their lead in World Cup qualifying Group J to four points.
Gnabry and Sané on the scoresheet
It was a slick combination from FCB players that engineered an early lead for Germany against Iceland. In the fourth minute, Joshua Kimmich passed to Leroy Sané, who found Serge Gnabry with a crisp cross, and the winger slotted in from close range to make it 1-0. 20 minutes later, Antonio Rüdiger added another following an assist from Kimmich. Sané increased the lead to 3-0 on 56 minutes with a powerful finish, and Timo Werner wrapped things up in the 89th minute with a fourth. Germany's next international match will be a home game against Romania on October 8 in Hamburg.
Lewandowski earns a point against England
Thanks to a late goal by Damian Szymanski, the Polish national team led by Robert Lewandowski earned a 1-1 (0-0) draw against England on Wednesday. Harry Kane put the Three Lions ahead in the 72nd minute in Warsaw, but the Poles refused to give up and grabbed the equalizer in stoppage time. Following a blocked shot, Lewandowski's cross from the left found Szymanski in the center, and he headed home to make it 1-1. With eleven points from six games, Poland are currently in third place in World Cup Qualifying Group I. Lewy and Co. will take on San Marino in Warsaw on October 9.
