FC Bayern Basketball bids farewell to two key players from last season: Carsen Edwards, the top scorer of the German champions, and Nick Weiler-Babb are leaving Munich after two and five seasons respectively in the FCBB jersey. Edwards joined from Fenerbahce Istanbul in 2023 and, under head coach Gordon Herbert, became by far the most prolific scorer in the club’s history, especially in the EuroLeague, averaging 20.4 points per game. He was named to the All-First Team, while Weiler-Babb was honored as the best defender in the top-tier competition.
In Weiler-Babb’s case, an exit clause is being exercised. Both players will transfer to other EuroLeague teams.
Two EuroLeague Honors
"Carsen and Nick played a major role in our successful season. Because of their contributions, they will always hold a special place in our club," said FCBB sporting director Dragan Tarlac. "We wish both of them much success on their future paths and are sure we’ll see them again soon."
Edwards, 27, made exactly 100 three-pointers in 35 EuroLeague appearances for Bayern in the 2024/25 season. However, he was unable to participate in the second Play-In game at Real Madrid in early April due to a back injury. Despite his personal desire to return, the Play-In win over Crvena Zvezda Belgrade ultimately became his last game. The Texan also missed the entire playoffs of the easyCredit BBL, where he had averaged 14.9 points in 22 games.
Weiler-Babb joined Bayern in 2020, playing a total of 161 BBL games for the club (averaging 7.8 points per game) — exactly the same number as in the EuroLeague (6.9 points, 3.6 rebounds, and 2.9 assists per game). Under head coach Gordon Herbert, he took on the main role as point guard for the first time. With 1.5 steals per game, he was the top ball thief in the EuroLeague and was also named "Best Defender" in the BBL.
Weiler-Babb won the double with FCBB in 2024 (as did Edwards), and he claimed the cup title three times overall. In 2023, he was named MVP of the TOP FOUR in Oldenburg. He also earned a bronze medal with the German national team at EuroBasket 2022 and participated in the 2024 Olympics.
FC Bayern Basketball wishes Carsen and Nick all the best on their future paths.
